Bobby Beers: How to Roll Like a Champion

An Enola inline skater is gaining national recognition.

Bobby Beers, a recent East Pennsboro High School graduate, is in full training mode. He is jetting off to Colorado for the Outdoor Inline Speed Skating Championships in mid-August in hopes of qualifying for the World Championships in South Korea.

Beers started skating at the age of two, and as the saying goes, never really looked back. Beers tried other sports like track and field and soccer, but says the adrenaline rush he feels in skating is what brings him back.

He won the National Indoor Novice Junior Speed Skating Championship in 2009, fulfilling a dream. But the dream almost never happened.

When Beers was just a baby, his parents were told that he may never walk after being born with a severely clubbed foot. But thankfully doctors were able to surgically fix his foot.

Now the obstacle in the way of Nationals and Worlds is Money.

A lot of money is needed for the travel expenses to each competition. The family is holding a lot of different fundraisers in the area. Donations are also being taken at Susquehanna Bank branches. Donations can also be sent to the Olympic Skating Center in Enola.
