CV's Beiler Signs With San Francisco

Wide receiver leaves for the Bay Area tomorrow, interview below.

Football fans across the country celebrated the end of the NFL lockout today. Conestoga Valley graduate Tyler Beiler, along with his family, celebrated the start of his professional career.

Beiler, an un-drafted free agent, signed with the San Francisco 49ers, that team that considered drafting him in the seventh round of April's NFL Draft.

After graduating CV in 2006, Beiler went to Division III Bridgewater College in Virginia. All he did there was set school records for receiving yards and touchdowns, get named an AP Little All-American as one of the best players from Division II/III and the NAIA and lead the nation in all-purpose yards and receiving yards per game.

His pro day and personal workouts with NFL teams proved his athleticism, as he posted 40-yard dash times under 4.4 seconds.

Beiler said he also received calls from Jacksonville and Miami in a flurry of action tonight. But his agent, Jason Silver, had said even before the draft that San Francisco was the best fit.

Instead of signing immediately following the draft, the wideout and return specialist had to wait for the powers that be to agree to a new labor agreement.

He will wait no longer. Beiler heads to California tomorrow ready to take part in training camp with the 49ers in Santa Clara. And ready to prove he belongs at the highest level of professional football.

Our story with Beiler from earlier this year can be found here. Our interview with the new 49er is below:

Tom McCabe Gets First Look at Barons

Longtime coach takes over a strong girls' basketball program.

Tom McCabe is the new man in charge of the Manheim Central girls' basketball team. He was approved three weeks ago and since then has been getting to know his new players.

McCabe takes over a Baron squad left in great shape by former head coach Jason Coletti, now the boss of the Ephrata boys.

Central qualified for Districts last season and was in the running for the Section 3 title until the last game of the regular season. The team is just two years removed from a state playoff berth.

Most importantly, the Barons did not lose a single player to graduation. McCabe, a 'learning support' teacher at Manheim Central High School, and a boys' and girls' basketball coach for more than 20 years discusses this opportunity and what he likes about his new team:
